What it is
Plasterboard ceiling joints with no backing pieces fixed above them.
Why it matters
Back blocking holds the joint flat. Without it, ceiling joints are more likely to crack and show.
How we check it
We inspect the top side of the ceiling from the roof space.
The fix
Install back blocking to AS/NZS 2589.1, then repair any cracked joints.
How common it is
You can only see this from the roof space, which is why we go up on every handover.
