Broken waterstop, or membrane stopping short of it

76% of homes had at least one bathroom, wet-area or tiling defect at handover.

Broken waterstop, or membrane stopping short of it
Found at a recent handover inspection.

    What it is

The metal angle at a bathroom doorway that keeps water in the bathroom is broken, or the membrane under it doesn't run up the angle.

    Why it matters

Shower water can track under the door into the bedroom carpet and floor. Once it's tiled, nobody can see the membrane.

    How we check it

At waterproofing stage we check the membrane runs up the water stop angle. At handover we check the angle is intact.

    The fix

At waterproofing stage it's a quick fix. After tiling, tiles have to come up.

    How common it is

76% of homes had at least one bathroom, wet-area or tiling defect at handover.
