Slab Inspection Brisbane & SEQ

After the concrete is poured, the slab can still be assessed for compliance before construction continues. A slab inspection identifies surface defects, edge beam issues and drainage problems before they become structural problems.

    What is a Slab Inspection?

A Slab Inspection is carried out after the concrete has been poured and cured, and before frame construction begins. While a pre-pour inspection checks the setup before pouring, the slab inspection assesses the finished concrete against the QBCC Standards and Tolerances and AS2870.

VG Inspect checks the poured slab for levelness, surface finish, edge beam condition, exposed reinforcement, honeycombing, drainage falls and compliance with the approved engineering drawings. Issues identified at slab stage — before the frame goes up — are significantly easier and cheaper to address than the same issues found at handover.

A slab inspection is particularly important for identifying whether the finished floor levels will create problems for floor coverings, whether drainage falls around the perimeter are adequate, and whether any cold joints, cracks or surface defects need engineer assessment before construction proceeds.

    Slab Inspection FAQs

How much does a slab inspection cost in Brisbane?

VG Inspect slab inspections start from $550 including your detailed PDF report with photos and QBCC Standards & Tolerances references.

Is a slab inspection different from a pre-pour inspection?

Yes. The pre-pour inspection checks the slab setup before concrete is poured. The slab inspection assesses the finished, cured concrete after pouring. Both are recommended for new builds.

When should I book a slab inspection?

After the concrete has cured — typically 7–14 days after your pour date — and before frame delivery begins.

What if cracks are found in the slab?

VG Inspect categorises cracks against QBCC Standards & Tolerances Table 3.10. Category 3 and 4 cracks require structural engineer assessment. Your report provides the documentation needed to require this from your builder.

Do I need both a pre-pour and slab inspection?

Yes — they check different things. The pre-pour checks what goes into the concrete. The slab inspection checks the finished result. Both are part of VG Inspect's complete stage inspection package.
